Congratulations! You’ve decided to quit smoking. This is one of the best things you can do to improve your overall health and add years to your life. Nonsmokers generally live longer than people who continue to smoke.

You’re more likely to quit smoking for good if you prepare for two things: 1) your last cigarette and 2) the cravings, urges and feelings that come with quitting.

Maybe you smoke cigarettes. Or maybe someone you love smokes, or is smoking near you or near to someone else you love (secondhand smoke has been linked to multiple cancers). Even though most of us have grown up in a fairly anti-smoking world, the habit still persists.

That’s because smoking is an incredibly hard habit to kick. The World Health Organization points out that nicotine is as addictive as heroin. When you’re doing something very difficult like kicking an addictive drug, you need all the help you can get. You need the care and support of your friends, and your medical team. You might consider a stop-smoking group, or use one of the prescription aids like a nicotine patch or gum.

When your resolve lags, have a look at My Selection of Videos related to Quitting smoking and General Health. They will remind you — sometimes with humor, sometimes graphically — why it’s important to quit.

B.C. Bans E-Cigarette Sales To Youths

New legislation restricting the sale and use of e-cigarettes in B.C. is coming into effect on Sept. 1, the government has announced, but it won’t apply to people vaping pot.

According to officials, the use of vapourizers is highest amongst young people, and the new rules aim to limit their access in the same way as tobacco.

The new rules include:

– Sales limited to adults aged 19 and above.

– No retail displays targeting youth.

– No retail advertising for e-cigarettes where youths can see it.

– No sales in public buildings.

– Use banned on all public and private school grounds, inside public spaces and in workplaces.

– Use banned on health authority properties, except in designated smoking and vaping areas.
